Wet Laminate

Laminate flooring usually doesn't fare very well when it gets wet.  This picture shows how the seams can swell and become very uneven when water soaks underneath it.

Usually the affected flooring will have to be removed and replaced after drying is complete.

Call SERVPRO of Springfield if you have a water damage that affects your flooring.

Wet flooring

There are a lot of things to take into account when figuring out a plan for drying out a structure.  In this picture the flooring was saturated enough that the adhesive that kept it in place had released and caused the tiles to move around.  In this case usually all of the continuous flooring will have to be replaced in order to make sure the floor is restored to its original state.

Advancement in drying technology

While there are many methods for drying structural components and contents, the “in-place” drying system has been taught in the industry and used by drying contractors since the early ’80s. In those days, this method of drying components, without significant removal of furnishings or fixtures, was somewhat restricted, due to limitations imposed by extraction, evaporation and dehumidification equipment. In recent years, however, drying technology (extraction, evaporation, dehumidification), along with better understanding of psychrometry, has advanced in major ways so that in-place drying has, in some cases, become far more safe and practical.

Sump pump failures during storms

Sump pump failures can cause flooding in your basement when water tables rise and cause pumps to continuously run for extended periods of time.  Some general tips on how to mitigate damage BEFORE the sump actually fails.

  • keep items in plastic totes in order to keep water out
  • keep fabric items and clothing up off the floor on palettes or shelving units
  • check your sump pump to make sure it is working often and make sure the float that activates the pump moves freely

Call SERVPRO if your pump does fail at 217-528-7775
